The Lightning Goldfish

Lily loved swimming in her backyard pool, especially during summer storms. One rainy afternoon, she dipped her toes into the warm water while watching gray clouds gather above. Her pet goldfish, Finny, floated in his bowl on the patio table, his orange scales shimmering like tiny suns.

"Look, Finny!" Lily called. "It's going to rain!" Sure enough, fat droplets began splashing around her. Lightning crackled across the sky, turning everything bright purple for a split second.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the pool! Sparkles danced across the water's surface. Lily gasped as something magical happened—Finny's bowl began to glow, and suddenly, the little goldfish was swimming right beside her in the big pool!

But Finny looked different now. His scales sparkled with electric blue streaks, and he moved with jerky, jerky motions, like a silly zombie fish from a storybook. Yet his eyes twinkled with friendship.

"Lily!" Finny bubbled. "The lightning made me real!"

They swam together for hours, playing chase and racing raindrops. Finny showed her secret treasures hidden at the bottom of the pool—glowing pebbles and shiny shells. Even as a zombie fish, he was still her best friend.

"Magic friendships never fade," Finny said, nudging her hand with his nose. "Not even when lightning strikes!"

As the storm passed, Finny grew sleepy. The magic sparkles faded, and he drifted back to his bowl, sleeping peacefully. But sometimes, during storms, Lily still sees that electric blue flash in the water, reminding her that the best friends—and the best magic—can appear in the most surprising ways.
