The Lightning Goldfish
Emma loved her pet goldfish, Goldie, more than anything. But she never guessed Goldie was magical until the night of the big storm.
Emma was watching TV when suddenly—FLASH!—lightning struck right outside her window. The power went out, leaving everything dark. Then she noticed something strange: Goldie's bowl was glowing with tiny golden sparkles, like miniature lightning bolts.
Emma carried Goldie's bowl to the backyard, where the rain had filled the swimming pool with shimmering water. She placed the bowl gently on the pool's edge. What happened next made her gasp.
Goldie leaped from her bowl and grew bigger, bigger, BIGGER—until she was the size of a dolphin! Her scales shimmered with rainbow colors. But Goldie wasn't swimming alone.
From the deep end of the pool, a zombie slowly emerged—but not a scary zombie. This zombie was made of pool noodles and inflatable toys, with googly eyes and a friendly smile. He wobbled toward Emma on stiff legs.
"I'm Zombie Bob!" he announced in a bubbly voice. "Goldie's magic woke me up!"
Emma noticed something dragging behind Zombie Bob. It was a thick cable, tangled with weeds. "What's that?" she asked.
"That's the Cable of Courage!" Goldie bubbled happily. "Whoever holds it becomes brave enough to face any storm!"
Emma grasped the cable. Warmth flowed through her hands, filling her with courage. The three friends—Emma, Goldie, and Zombie Bob—played in the magical pool until the storm passed. They had splash contests, lightning races across the water, and told funny ghost stories.
When dawn broke, Goldie returned to her normal size and swam back to her bowl. Zombie Bob collapsed into a pile of pool toys. The cable dissolved into sparkles that floated up to the sky.
But Emma discovered something wonderful: the courage remained. She wasn't afraid of storms anymore. And every night, Goldie would wiggle her fins, promising another adventure was just a lightning flash away.
Sometimes the best friends come in the most unexpected forms—even goldfish and pool noodle zombies—and the bravest thing you can do is believe in magic.
