The Lightning Goldfish
Max was a golden retriever who loved adventure more than anything. One stormy afternoon, he chased a butterfly near the old pond behind his house. The sky rumbled, and lightning flashed bright as Max skidded to a stop beside his favorite palm tree.
Curled in the palm of a giant leaf sat a tiny goldfish in a puddle of rainwater. Max tilted his head. How had a fish gotten up here?
"Please help me," said a tiny voice. Max jumped! The goldfish could talk!
"My pond overflowed in the storm," the goldfish explained. "I need to get back to the water before I dry up."
Max knew what to do. He carefully nudged the leaf with his nose. It tilted slowly, and the goldfish slid down into a larger puddle. But it wasn't deep enough. Max splashed through the rain, digging with his paws until he created a little path. The water trickled toward the main pond below.
"You're saving me!" the goldfish cheered as it swam along the stream Max had made.
Lightning struck nearby, making Max jump. The goldfish suddenly glowed with golden light. "Thank you, brave dog," it said. "For your kindness, I grant you one wish."
Max didn't wish for bones or treats. "I wish my friend Lily could see magic too."
The goldfish smiled. Then it swam deep into the pond, sending up bubbles that turned into tiny stars. Each bubble burst, spreading golden sparkles across the water.
From that day on, whenever Max and Lily visited the pond, the goldfish would appear, and they would see magic together—rainbow fish, glowing fireflies, and water that sparkled like diamonds.
Max learned that helping others brings the best magic of all: friendship that shines brighter than lightning and lasts longer than any treasure.
