The Lightning Goldfish
Lily loved her little goldfish, Goldie. He swam in a bowl on her nightstand, his orange scales shimmering like tiny pieces of the sun. Every night before bed, Lily would tap gently on the glass.
"Goodnight, Goldie," she'd whisper. "Dream big dreams."
One summer evening, a storm rolled in. Thunder rumbled like a giant tummy, and lightning flashed across the sky in brilliant zigzags. Lily watched from her window, amazed by the dancing lights.
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck so close! The room filled with a blinding flash. When Lily could see again, something magical had happened.
Goldie was glowing! His scales sparkled with an electric blue light, and tiny lightning bolts swirled around his bowl.
"Lily!" said a tiny voice. Lily looked around. "Down here!"
She looked at Goldie. The goldfish was floating at the top of his water, speaking to her!
"The lightning gave me magic," Goldie said. "Now I can grant one wish. What do you dream of?"
Lily couldn't believe it. She thought carefully. "I wish... I wish you could swim free, not stuck in this bowl."
Goldie smiled (which goldfish can do when they're magical). "Your wish is my gift, because you're my friend."
The lightning around Goldie grew brighter. Suddenly, Goldie swam right up through the air! He zipped around Lily's room like a tiny fish-shaped star, trailing sparkles.
Then Goldie did something wonderful. He flew to Lily's open palm and settled there, glowing warmly.
"I'm free now, thanks to you," Goldie said. "And I'll always be your friend, whether in water or air or lightning."
Lily felt the warm glow in her palm and knew this was the best adventure ever. From that night on, Goldie could explore the world during the day, but always returned to sleep in Lily's palm at night, their friendship stronger than any storm.
