The Lightning Goldfish

Lily loved rainy days. Her mom's old iPhone sat on the windowsill, unused except for one special app—a magical game she'd discovered by accident.

One stormy afternoon, lightning flashed so bright the whole room turned white. Suddenly, the iPhone began to glow! Lily gasped as a tiny golden fish swam across the screen, leaving ripples of real light in the air.

"Please help!" the goldfish bubbled, its voice like tiny bells. "My pond is trapped by the Grumpy Garden Zombie!"

Lily pressed her finger to the screen, and WHOOSH! She tumbled inside, landing on soft grass under a purple sky.

The goldfish, whose name was Finnigan, led her through a garden where flowers drooped sadly. "The Zombie used to be our gardener," Finnigan explained. "But one day he forgot how to smile. Now nothing grows, and everyone's scared of him."

In the center of the garden sat a figure covered in vines and leaves. Lily approached slowly. "Hello?"

The Zombie looked up. His eyes were kind, just... tired.

"Mr. Zombie?" Lily asked gently. "When was the last time you played?"

"Played?" The Zombie rubbed his chin. "I don't remember. I've been too busy being grumpy."

Lily took out her iPhone and opened Finnigan's game—a simple puzzle where you catch stars. "Want to try?"

The Zombie hesitated, then carefully tapped the screen with one green finger. A star burst into sparkles. His eyes widened. Another tap. Another sparkle. Soon, the Zombie was laughing—a sound like rain on a tin roof.

As he laughed, the vines fell away, revealing a kindly old man underneath. The flowers perked up. The sky turned from purple to brilliant blue.

"Thank you," the former Zombie whispered. "I'd forgotten that joy grows everywhere, if you remember to plant it."

Another flash of lightning, and Lily was back in her room, the iPhone screen dark. But outside her window, the garden looked greener than before. And whenever it storms now, she watches for goldfish in the sky, and always remembers: sometimes the grumpiest monsters just need someone to play with them.
