The Lightning Girl's Orange Gift

Maya lived in the tallest building in her city, an old apartment tower that creaked and swayed when the wind blew hard. Every night, she would sit by her window and watch storms roll in, fascinated by the way lightning cracked across the sky like nature's own fireworks.

One evening, during the biggest storm of the year, Maya noticed something strange. The thick metal cable that ran down the side of her building—normally rusty and dull—began to glow with a soft orange light. Curious, she pressed her hand against the window.

Suddenly, the cable hummed, and tiny sparks of orange lightning danced along its length. Maya gasped as a small girl made entirely of glowing orange lightning zipped down the cable and landed right on her windowsill!

"I'm Zappy!" the girl said, her hair crackling with tiny lightning bolts that stuck out in every direction. "I've been stuck in that storm cloud for days. Thank you for noticing me!"

Maya opened the window, amazed. "You're beautiful!" she said. "But you must be hungry from being stuck so long."

She ran to the kitchen and returned with her favorite snack—a bright orange. Zappy's eyes widened. "I've never seen an orange lightning bolt before!"

"It's not lightning," Maya laughed. "It's a fruit. You eat it!"

Zappy took a careful bite. Her eyes lit up even brighter. "This is wonderful! Sweet and tangy and full of sunshine!"

From that night on, whenever storms came, Zappy would visit Maya. In return for oranges, Zappy would light up Maya's room with beautiful orange lightning shows that never scared her—only filled her with wonder.

"True friends," Zappy said one night, "aren't the ones who are exactly like you. They're the ones who share what they have and make your world brighter."

Maya smiled, popping an orange slice into her mouth. Even now, years later, whenever she sees lightning during a storm, she looks for that special orange glow—and remembers that the best friendships come from the most unexpected places.
