The Lightning Garden Surprise
Leo hated spinach. Every time his mom put those green leaves on his plate, he made a yucky face. But Leo loved baseball more than anything in the world. He played catch every day after school and dreamed of hitting a home run during the big championship game.
One stormy evening, while Leo was practicing his swing in the backyard, something magical happened. A bolt of lightning flashed across the dark sky—CRACK! BOOM!—and struck right in the middle of Mom's vegetable garden. Leo's eyes grew wide as saucers.
The next morning, Leo discovered something amazing. The spinach patch was glowing! Each green leaf sparkled like tiny emeralds in the sunlight. Curious, Leo plucked a bright green leaf and took a tiny nibble.
Suddenly, his feet felt light as feathers! He ran to the baseball diamond and—ZOOM!—he ran faster than ever before. When he picked up his baseball bat, it felt perfect in his hands, like they were made for each other.
At the championship game that Saturday, Leo's team was losing. The other team was really good. But when Leo stepped up to the plate, he remembered the magical lightning spinach. The pitcher threw the ball, and—CRACK!—Leo hit it so far that everyone's mouths dropped open. The ball sailed over the fence, over the trees, and nearly into the clouds!
Leo's teammates cheered and lifted him on their shoulders. They won the championship trophy! That evening, Leo sat down to dinner. When Mom served spinach, Leo didn't make a yucky face. Instead, he smiled and took a big bite.
"You know," Leo said, "spinach isn't so bad after all. Sometimes the things we think we don't like can turn out to be wonderful surprises."
The lightning-spinach never glowed again, but Leo didn't mind. He had learned something even more magical than superpowers: keeping an open mind can lead to the best adventures of all.
