The Lightning Garden Surprise
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's farm, especially the vegetable garden behind the old red barn. But her favorite part was the patch of **spinach** that Grandma called her "special plants." They grew greener and taller than any other vegetables in the garden.
One afternoon, while Lily was helping Grandma harvest, a strange storm rolled in. Dark clouds gathered overhead, and suddenly a bolt of **lightning** struck the spinach patch! Lily gasped and ran to hide, but Grandma just laughed.
"Don't worry, dear!" Grandma called. "This happens every few years. The lightning gives the spinach something special!"
Curious, Lily crept closer. The spinach leaves were glowing with a soft green light. Grandma carefully picked one leaf and handed it to Lily.
"Taste it," she said with a wink.
Lily took a tiny bite. Suddenly, she felt energy tingling through her whole body! She jumped—and leaped clear over the garden fence! She ran around the farm faster than she'd ever moved before.
"What's happening?" Lily asked, wide-eyed.
"The lightning activates a secret **vitamin** in the spinach," Grandma explained. "It gives you special powers for one hour. But remember—magic this strong must be shared."
Lily wanted to keep eating the spinach and having super speed all to herself. But then she heard her friend Tommy crying. His kitten had climbed too high in a tree and couldn't get down. Tommy's mom wasn't home, and he didn't know what to do.
Lily looked at the glowing spinach, then at her worried friend. She made a choice.
"Tommy! Come here!" she called. She gave him a spinach leaf and explained what happened. Together, they used their super speed to run up the tree and rescue the kitten safely.
Then they heard that Mrs. Henderson's groceries had fallen and rolled all over the street. Lily and Tommy spent the rest of their magical hour helping everyone in town.
As the sun set, the spinach's glow faded. Lily and Tommy sat on the porch, tired but happy.
"You know," Lily said, "the best thing about those vitamins wasn't the super speed."
"What was it?" Tommy asked.
"Getting to help people with my best friend," Lily said, smiling.
Grandma patted both their heads. "Now you understand the real magic. Powers fade, but kindness lasts forever."
