The Lightning Garden Secret

Mia wrinkled her nose at the dinner plate. "Spinach again?" She poked at the green leaves with her fork.

Grandma chuckled, her eyes twinkling. "You never know what magic hides in ordinary things, little one."

That night, a thunderstorm rolled in. Lightning flashed across the sky in jagged bursts, turning Mia's bedroom bright white. She counted the seconds until thunder rumbled—one, two, three...

A strange orange glow caught her eye through the window. It wasn't the streetlamp. It wasn't a flashlight. It was coming from Grandma's garden!

Mia slipped outside in her pajamas, rain pattering gently on her head. There, in the middle of the vegetable patch, the spinach patch was glowing a brilliant orange. Each time lightning struck nearby, the leaves pulsed brighter, as if drinking in the storm's magic.

She reached out, and a single spinach leaf wrapped around her finger like a tiny emerald blanket. Suddenly, she understood—the lightning wasn't just electricity. It was star-stuff, ancient and powerful, and the spinach was catching it like a green net.

The leaf in her hand warmed. Mia's mind filled with pictures: clouds forming, rain falling, roots drinking deep, the whole circle of life spinning like a wheel. The spinach carried lightning's energy down into the earth, feeding the soil, making everything grow.

"Everything connects," Mia whispered, watching the orange glow fade as the storm passed.

The next morning, Mia ate her spinach without complaint. It tasted like rain and secrets and the memory of light.

"What changed?" Grandma asked, surprised.

Mia smiled. "Some things taste magical when you know their secret."

And now, whenever storms roll through, Mia watches for that special orange glow—the lightning's gift to the garden, and the garden's gift to her.
