The Lightning Garden's Secret Friend

In the small town of Willowbrook, there lived a girl named Lily who loved magic. Every night, she watched storms dance across the sky from her window. One evening, a brilliant flash of lightning illuminated her backyard garden, and she saw something extraordinary.

A lumpy, mud-covered figure shuffled between the flowers. It looked like a zombie from her storybooks, but this creature was different. Instead of scary, it seemed gentle. It carefully placed fallen baby birds back into their nests and watered thirsty plants with cupped hands.

Lily crept outside through the soft rain. "Hello?" she called.

The creature turned slowly. Its face was kind, with eyes that sparkled like stars. "I'm Oliver," it rumbled softly. "I'm the garden's guardian."

"You're a zombie!" Lily gasped, but without fear.

Oliver shook his head. "Not exactly. Long ago, a kind wizard's spell went wrong. Instead of scaring people away, I was enchanted to protect gardens. But I can only appear when lightning strikes, because that's when the magic is strongest."

Every storm after that, Lily waited by the window. When lightning flashed, Oliver would emerge to tend the garden. He taught Lily how to coax the most beautiful roses from stubborn bushes and how tomatoes taste sweeter when sung to.

One day, Lily's friends said zombies were monsters. "They're scary!" insisted Tom.

Lily shook her head. "Not all zombies are scary. Sometimes, things that look frightening are actually the kindest of all."

That night, during a terrible storm, Oliver used magic from the lightning to save the town's flooding river. The water rose dangerously high, but Oliver summoned roots and vines to create a dam, protecting every house.

When the storm passed, the whole town saw Oliver's muddy footprints leading away from the river. No one was afraid anymore. They left flowers and thank-you notes in their gardens, hoping their guardian would visit.

Lily learned that day that true friends come in unexpected packages, and that magic lives in the most surprising places. And whenever lightning streaks across the sky, she still runs to the window, hoping to see her friend emerge from the garden shadows.
