The Lightning Garden's Magic Friend

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's garden at midnight. That's when the magic happened. One evening, as she crept through the vegetable patch, a bolt of lightning struck the old oak tree. CRACK! BOOM!

Instead of running inside, Lily watched in wonder. The lightning had made something amazing happen. The plants were glowing!

"Hello there, little one," said a deep, rumbly voice.

Lily jumped. Standing between the rows of tomatoes was a green-skinned figure with leaves sprouting from his shoulders. It was a zombie! But he didn't look scary. He looked gentle and kind, wearing overalls covered in dirt.

"I'm Zed," the zombie said with a shy smile. "I tend to this garden after dark."

"You're a zombie?" Lily whispered, eyes wide.

"I am," Zed nodded. "But not the scary kind. I'm a garden guardian zombie. The lightning gave me life many years ago, and now I take care of this magical place."

Lily noticed Zed's watering can. "What's that?"

"This is special water from the Moonlight Spring," Zed explained. "It makes vegetables grow overnight. Would you like to see?"

He sprinkled the shimmering water on a patch of spinach. WHOOSH! The spinach plants shot up tall and strong, their leaves sparkling like emeralds.

"Spinach is my favorite," Zed admitted. "It gives me energy to work all night. Would you like some magical spinach too?"

Lily tried a leaf. It tasted like sunshine and rainbows! Suddenly she felt strong enough to lift the whole watering can.

For weeks, Lily and Zed became best friends, gardening together by moonlight. They grew the biggest vegetables the town had ever seen. When the summer drought came and the town's wells ran dry, Zed showed Lily where to find more Moonlight Water.

Together they filled buckets and helped all the neighbors' gardens survive. No one knew the secret helper was a friendly zombie who loved spinach and lightning storms.

Lily learned that friends come in all shapes and sizes, and that magic grows wherever kindness is planted. And sometimes, the most wonderful surprises come from the most unexpected places.
