The Lightning Garden's Magic
Lila loved her grandmother's garden more than anything in the world. But it wasn't the flowers or the sweet tomatoes that made it special — it was the patch of spinach behind the old oak tree.
Grandmother called it her lightning spinach. Once every summer, during the biggest thunderstorm, lightning would strike the garden and make the spinach glow with soft green light for three whole days.
"Only those with kind hearts can see its magic," Grandmother would say with a wink.
This year, the storm arrived on Lila's birthday. She watched from the window as rain poured down and lightning flashed across the sky. Suddenly — CRACK! A bolt struck the garden.
The next morning, Lila rushed outside. The spinach leaves were shimmering like little emerald stars.
She touched one gently, and suddenly her feet felt lighter than air. She began running — faster than she'd ever run before, dancing between the rainbows that appeared in the morning mist. She circled the entire garden three times before stopping, breathless but full of joy.
But then she heard something crying near the fence. It was a tiny rabbit, trapped in a tangle of thorns.
Lila knew what she had to do. She carefully picked a single glowing spinach leaf. The moment she ate it, warmth spread through her whole body.
Running faster than the wind itself, Lila reached the rabbit in the blink of an eye. With gentle hands, she untangled the thorns and set the little one free.
The rabbit hopped to the garden and returned with something in its mouth — a beautiful feather, glowing with the same green light as the spinach.
Grandmother found them there, smiling. "The lightning spinach doesn't give you magic powers, my dear. It shows you the magic that was already inside your heart."
That night, Lila fell asleep dreaming of running through starlit gardens, knowing that kindness was the greatest magic of all.
