The Lightning Garden Game

Lily hated spinach. Every time her mother served it, she made a face.

"It makes you strong," Mama said with a wink.

But Lily didn't feel strong. She felt small.

One afternoon, dark clouds gathered over the village. Lightning flashed across the sky like jagged ribbons. Lily ran to the old garden behind her house—the place her grandmother called the Lightning Garden.

Legend said that when lightning struck the garden's magical spring, something wonderful happened.

CRACK! A bolt of lightning hit the ancient oak tree. Rain poured down, filling the stone bowl at the garden's center with glowing water.

But that wasn't the strangest part. The spinach plants began to tremble. Their leaves grew larger, brighter, until they shimmered like green stars.

Lily's friend Tomas appeared, holding something strange—a wooden frame with strings. "My grandfather calls it a padel racquet," he said. "Want to play?"

Lily picked up a glowing spinach leaf. It felt light as air. "I'll use this!"

They stood on opposite sides of the stone bowl. Tomas served a magical water orb across. Lily swung her spinach leaf—and WHOOSH! The leaf sent the orb flying back, leaving a trail of sparkles.

They played for hours, hitting the glowing water back and forth. Each time the orb struck a spinach leaf, droplets scattered upward, joining the clouds above. The storm grew gentler, the lightning softer.

"Look!" Tomas pointed. The spinach orbs had turned into raindrops, falling softly all over the village.

The garden keeper appeared, smiling. "The Lightning Garden chose you both. When the sky grows angry, play the game with spinach leaves and water. You remind the clouds that rain can be gentle."

That night, Lily ate her spinach gladly. She knew now that even the smallest things—even vegetables she once disliked—could hold the greatest magic.

And whenever storms came, Lily and Tomas ran to the garden, spinach leaves in hand, ready to play the most important game in the world.
