The Lightning Garden
Emma loved storms, especially when lightning cracked the sky open. Her grandma had warned her about the old cemetery nearby, where folks said strange things happened during thunderstorms. But Emma was curious.
One evening, rainwater flooded her backyard garden, pooling around the fence. Lightning flashed—CRACK!—and something stirred behind the old oak tree.
Emma peeked through the rain. A figure stood there, looking dazed and confused. It was greenish-gray, with messy hair and tattered clothes. A zombie!
But he didn't moan or shamble. He just looked sad, watching his own reflection in a puddle.
"You're not scary," Emma called out, opening her umbrella.
The zombie jumped. "I'm NOT scary? Everyone runs away screaming!"
"You look lonely. I'm Emma."
"I'm Zed," he mumbled. "I woke up during the lightning storm. I don't remember anything before."
Emma noticed something magical—where Zed's feet touched the ground, dead flowers perked up, brown leaves turned green, and wilted stems straightened.
"You're making the garden grow!"
Zed looked down, surprised. "I am?"
Water dripped from his fingertips like tiny glowing sparks. Each drop made plants bloom in extraordinary colors—purple roses, golden sunflowers, silver moonflowers that glowed in the dark.
Together, they discovered Zed's gift: he could bring life to anything through water and lightning energy. All night, they transformed Emma's garden into a magical paradise.
By morning, the whole neighborhood was amazed. Even people who had been scared of Zed changed their minds when they saw what he could do.
Emma smiled at her new friend. Sometimes the scariest-looking things turn out to be the most wonderful of all. And sometimes, all it takes is one person brave enough to see past appearances to find magic waiting underneath.
