The Lightning Garden

Oliver was the smallest kid in his class, with curly hair that always looked like it had been struck by lightning. He loved spending time in his grandmother's backyard garden, where strange and wonderful things grew.

One stormy afternoon, Oliver watched dark clouds gather above the garden. Raindrops plinked against the greenhouse roof as his grandmother rushed outside with a worried expression.

"The special plants!" she cried. "They need the storm's magic!" Oliver followed her into the rain, watching in amazement as she uncovered a patch of peculiar vegetables. The spinach leaves glowed with an unusual orange light, pulsing like tiny hearts.

"Grandma, why is the spinach orange?" Oliver shouted over the thunder.

His grandmother smiled mysteriously. "This isn't ordinary spinach, dear. It's lightning spinach—it only grows during storms, and it grants courage to those who need it most."

Suddenly, a brilliant bolt of lightning struck the old oak tree nearby. The orange spinach blazed brighter than Oliver had ever seen, and he felt a warm tingle spread through his body. For the first time in his life, he didn't feel small anymore.

The next day at school, when big bully Tommy threatened to take Oliver's lunch money, something strange happened. Oliver remembered the glowing orange spinach, and suddenly he wasn't afraid. He stood tall and said, "No, Tommy. That's not okay."

Everyone gasped. Even Tommy looked surprised. Oliver had never stood up to anyone before. But deep inside, he felt the magic of the lightning spinach coursing through him—the courage to do what was right.

That afternoon, Oliver rushed back to his grandmother's garden. The orange spinach had returned to its ordinary green color, but Oliver knew its magic lived inside him now.

"True courage doesn't come from magic plants," his grandmother whispered, hugging him. "The lightning just helped you see what was already there."

Oliver smiled, understanding at last. Sometimes we need a little spark to discover how brave we really are.
