The Lightning Game
Leo loved his stuffed zombie toy, even though it was missing one eye and had green fuzz patching its hair. He called it Zippy, and Zippy went everywhere with him—to school, to the park, and even to Grandma's house.
One stormy afternoon, while Leo and his golden retriever, Sparky, watched rain patter against the window, something magical happened. A bolt of lightning flashed so bright that the whole room turned purple, and when Leo blinked, Zippy was standing on the bed!
"Wow!" Leo whispered. Zippy smiled and wiggled his green-stitched arms. The zombie wasn't scary at all—he was friendly and bouncy, like a walking marshmallow.
"Want to play?" Zippy asked in a voice that sounded like crunching autumn leaves.
Outside, the rain had stopped, but the sky still twinkled with distant lightning. Leo grabbed his padel racket from the closet. "Let's play magical padel!"
In the backyard, something extraordinary happened. Every time Leo hit the ball, it glowed like a tiny star. Sparky barked happily and chased the glowing ball across the grass. Zippy, surprisingly nimble for a stuffed toy, bounced around like a popcorn kernel, hitting the ball back with surprising skill.
"You're amazing!" Leo laughed as Zippy did a little spin and hit a winning shot.
The three friends played until the moon rose, painting silver streaks across the sky. Lightning continued to flash in the distance, like nature applauding their game.
When it was time for bed, Zippy grew still again, becoming a regular stuffed toy. But Leo knew the truth. Sometimes, the most wonderful friends come in the most unexpected packages, and magic happens when you least expect it—even with a zombie who loved padel and a dog who chased glowing balls.
That night, Leo drifted to sleep with Sparky curled at his feet and Zippy tucked under his arm, dreaming of their next magical game under the lightning sky.
