The Lightning Friend Who Wasn't a Zombie

Lily pressed her eye to her spy telescope, exactly the way real spies did. She was on a very important mission: discovering what was making the strange groaning sounds in her garden at night.

"Agent Lily reporting for duty," she whispered to herself, adjusting her plastic spy badge.

Through the telescope, she saw it. A green figure stumbling between the sunflowers. It moved slowly, arms outstretched, making low groaning noises.

Lily gasped. "A zombie! A real, actual zombie in my garden!"

Her heart pounded like a drum. But instead of running away, Lily remembered what her grandmother said: "Sometimes things aren't what they seem."

She grabbed her flashlight and crept outside.

"Hello?" Lily called out, her voice trembling just a little.

The zombie froze. Then, to Lily's surprise, it turned around slowly and spoke in a crackly voice, "I'm not a zombie. I'm a Lightning Sprite."

"You don't look like lightning," Lily said bravely. "You look... kind of like a potato that's been in the ground too long."

The creature sighed, and tiny sparks flew from its fingertips. "That's because I fell from the sky during last night's storm and landed in your garden. All my lightning got stuck in the mud."

Lily's eyes grew wide. "You're made of lightning? Real lightning?"

The creature nodded and held up its hand. A beautiful bolt of purple and gold lightning danced across its palm, making little zapping sounds like candy being unwrapped.

"Wow," Lily breathed. "I've never met anyone made of lightning before. Can I help you get back to the sky?"

The Lightning Sprite smiled, and its whole body glowed softly. "I need to climb something tall. Very tall. So I can jump back into the clouds."

Lily thought hard. "My treehouse! It's the tallest thing in the whole neighborhood."

Together, they climbed to the top of the treehouse. The Lightning Sprite stood on the roof, raised its arms, and suddenly—CRACK! A magnificent bolt of lightning shot down from the sky, lifting the sprite up, up, up until it became a twinkling star in the night.

A moment later, a small piece of paper floated down. Lily caught it. It read: "Thank you, Agent Lily! From your friend, the Lightning Sprite."

Lily tucked the note into her spy notebook, feeling like the most important spy in the world. She had discovered that zombies might actually be magical lightning creatures, and that friendship could be found in the most unexpected places.

That night, Lily fell asleep dreaming of lightning and friendship, already planning her next spy mission.
