The Lightning Friend
Lily lived in a house at the edge of the world, where the sky met the sea in a forever line of blue. She had no brothers or sisters, and the nearest neighbor was three hills away. But Lily had something special—a palm tree that grew right outside her window, its leaves dancing like green fingers in every breeze.
One stormy evening, as thunder rumbled like a sleeping giant's tummy, Lily sat by her window with her palm pressed against the glass. She traced tiny circles on her palm, wishing for something magical to happen. The storm outside grew wilder, and suddenly—CRACK! The sky turned purple, and lightning struck the palm tree.
But instead of burning, the tree glowed with golden light. Its leaves sparkled like tiny stars. And then, something amazing happened. The glowing leaves swirled together and formed a small, shimmering person made of light and magic—a real lightning friend!
The little light-being tapped on Lily's window and slipped inside, leaving tiny footprints that glowed for just a moment before fading.
"I'm Spark!" the friend said, their voice sounding like wind chimes. "Your palm-tracing magic called me from the storm!"
From that day on, whenever thunder rumbled across the sky, Lily would trace magic shapes on her palm, and Spark would appear—sometimes bringing tiny lightning butterflies, other times making rainbows appear in the rain. They danced around the palm tree, collected moonbeams in jars, and taught the fireflies new songs.
Lily learned that the best friends aren't always the ones you can hug forever. Sometimes they come when you're lonely, leave when you're not, and return whenever you need a sprinkle of magic. And the palm tree? It still grows by Lily's window, but now its leaves shimmer with a secret glow—remembering the night lightning and friendship made magic together.
