The Lightning Fox
Felix was a small orange fox with very big ears and an even bigger curiosity. Every night, he would sneak to the top of the tallest hill and watch the stars twinkle. But one stormy evening, instead of stars, he saw something magical.
A bolt of lightning cracked across the sky, and where it struck the ground, an ancient stone sphinx began to glow! The sphinx had the body of a lion and the face of a wise old woman, carved from gray stone centuries ago. Felix had never seen anything move like that before.
"Hello, little one," the sphinx rumbled, her voice like thunder wrapped in velvet. "I have slept for a thousand years. Your curiosity woke me."
Felix's tail twitched with excitement. "I've always wondered what secrets you hold!"
The sphinx smiled. "I hold the secret of friendship. But first, you must solve my riddle."
Before Felix could answer, a wet nose nudged his shoulder. It was Buster, the farmer's dog, who had followed Felix up the hill. Buster was big and fluffy with one ear that flopped over his eye.
"I want to help!" Buster barked happily.
The sphinx laughed. "Ah, two friends are better than one. Here is my riddle: I have no feet, but I can run. I have no mouth, but I can speak. I have no hands, but I can give you warmth. What am I?"
Felix thought hard. Buster scratched his ear and tilted his head.
"Friendship!" Felix suddenly shouted. "Friendship can run to help someone, speak kindness, and give warm feelings!"
The sphinx nodded, and her stone body transformed into pure golden light. "You are wise beyond your years, little fox. Friendship is the greatest magic of all."
She touched her paw to Felix's forehead, and suddenly, tiny sparks of lightning danced in his fur. Whenever Felix felt lonely or afraid, he could make little lightning sparks appear to remind himself that friendship was always nearby, shining bright like a star.
Buster and Felix ran down the hill together, their fur glowing with tiny sparks, the best of friends forever, carrying a little bit of magic into every day.
