The Lightning Fisherman's Secret
Lily loved exploring her grandfather's dusty attic. On rainy days, she would sneak up the creaky stairs and discover forgotten treasures. This afternoon, she found something peculiar: a thick black cable coiled like a sleeping snake in the corner.
"What do you do?" Lily whispered, touching the strange wire. Suddenly, the cable twitched! She gasped as it uncurled and slithered across the floor, leading her to the window.
Outside, rain poured down in sheets, making rivers of the garden path. The cable continued out the window, somehow staying dry as it pulled Lily along. She followed it through her backyard, past the puddles, until it reached the old pond behind her house.
"Come closer," a voice bubbled from the water.
Lily peered into the pond. A small blue fish with silver scales looked up at her. The cable dipped into the water and connected to something the fish was holding—a tiny fishing rod made of sunlight!
"I'm Finn," said the fish. "This cable catches lightning from storms, and I use it to make wishes come true for lonely children."
Lily's eyes widened. "You can do that?"
"Watch." Finn cast his lightning-rod line upward just as a real lightning bolt flashed across the dark sky. The cable glowed golden, capturing the spark. When Finn reeled it in, the lightning had become a beautiful glass marble filled with swirling light.
"For you," Finn said. "Whenever you feel lonely, hold this marble, and you'll have a friend."
Lily took the warm marble carefully. "But I'm not lonely anymore," she said with a smile. "I have you."
Finn's scales shimmered with happiness. "Then give it to someone who needs it. That's the real magic—sharing." The cable slowly retreated, the fish waved goodbye, and Lily ran inside with her glowing gift.
That night, she gave the lightning marble to her neighbor Tim, who had just moved to town. As it filled his room with warm golden light, Lily knew she had learned something wonderful: the best adventures are the ones you share.
