The Lightning Dog's Wish
Luna was a small golden dog with fluffy hair that always seemed to have a mind of its own. Every time it rained, her fur would stick up in silly directions, making the village children laugh. But Luna didn't mind. She had a secret.
Behind the old oak tree lived a fox named Remy, with fur the color of autumn leaves. He was the most magical creature in the forest, and Luna's best friend.
"You're late today," Remy said one evening. Purple clouds gathered overhead as the sky turned dark.
"The humans say a big storm is coming," Luna explained, twitching her nose.
Remy's eyes sparkled. "Not just any storm. This is a lightning storm—the lightning of wishes."
Luna had heard stories about this special lightning. Instead of burning what it touched, it granted one wish to whoever caught it in a bucket of water.
Suddenly, the sky flashed silver. Bolts of lightning danced across the clouds like glowing ribbons.
"Quick!" Remy cried. "Bring me water from the magic stream!"
Luna ran faster than she ever had before. The water shimmered with an inner glow even though it was nighttime. She filled an old wooden bucket and hurried back.
Together, the fox and dog watched the sky. A single bolt—brighter than all the others—headed straight toward them!
"Now!" Remy shouted.
Luna lifted the bucket. The lightning struck the water with a gentle hiss, and the liquid began to glow with warm golden light.
"Make your wish," Remy whispered.
Luna thought carefully. She could wish for endless treats, or a soft bed, or to never get wet again. But she looked at Remy and remembered how lonely he must be, always hiding behind the oak tree.
"I wish," she said clearly, "that everyone could see how wonderful Remy is, and that we could be friends always."
The water swirled and transformed into a beautiful silver collar with a lightning bolt charm. Luna put it on, and suddenly she could understand Remy without him speaking a word!
From that day on, Luna and Remy were never apart. The villagers were amazed to see a dog and fox playing together. Remy helped find lost children, guided travelers home, and taught the doctor about healing herbs.
Luna's hair still stuck up when it rained, but now everyone knew that was just part of her magic. After all, dogs who catch lightning bolts in buckets of water are bound to be a little extraordinary.
And every stormy night, if you look carefully, you might still see them sitting together under the old oak tree, watching the sky and smiling.
