The Lightning Dog's Golden Gift

Ten-year-old Leo loved his dog Sparky more than anything in the world. Sparky was no ordinary dog - his golden fur shimmered like starlight, and whenever he was happy, tiny sparks of actual lightning danced around his hair.

One stormy afternoon, a massive bull named Barnaby came thundering down the road. "Help!" cried the bull. "My little calf is sick in the meadow!"

Leo grabbed his raincoat. "Show me the way!"

But as they ran through the pouring rain, Leo shivered violently. His mother had warned him that morning: "You need your vitamin C to stay healthy and strong!" He'd forgotten his orange at breakfast, and now his energy was fading fast.

"You can't help anyone if you collapse," said Barnaby gently. "Let me carry you."

The mighty bull knelt down, and Leo climbed onto his broad, warm back. Sparky ran beside them, his lightning fur lighting their path through the dark storm.

They found little Thunder lying weakly in the tall grass. "I'm so tired," whispered the calf. "I haven't eaten the magic sunshine grass that gives us strength."

Sparky knew exactly what to do. He pressed his lightning-warmed fur against Thunder's side. The gentle, glowing currents warmed the calf, and suddenly Thunder's eyes brightened like morning stars.

"You gave him your magic energy!" Leo exclaimed. "Like a living vitamin from the sky!"

Barnaby wept with joy. "How can we ever repay you?"

Sparky licked Leo's hand, and a tiny lightning bolt jumped between them. Leo felt warmth spread through his entire body, stronger than any orange could ever make him feel.

"Friendship is the best vitamin of all," Leo said, hugging his dog tight.

From that day on, Leo, Sparky, and the bull family were the best of friends. And Leo never, ever forgot his morning orange again!
