The Lightning Cure

Lily loved watching storms from her window. Rain tapped against the glass like tiny fingers, and thunder rumbled like a sleepy giant's tummy. But tonight was different—tonight had magic.

In her backyard, something shuffling caught her eye. Lily pressed closer to the window. There, between the sunflowers and the garden gnome, stood a zombie! But this zombie wasn't like the scary ones in movies. He had patchy green skin, one button eye, and a cro stitched smile. He looked sad and lonely, holding a wilted flower.

Lily grabbed her raincoat and snuck outside. The zombie jumped when he saw her, then covered his face with his hands.

"Don't be scared!" Lily called. "I'm not scary either."

The zombie peeked through his fingers. "Really? Most people run away."

"I'm Lily," she said, stepping closer. "What's your name?"

"Zed," the zombie mumbled. "I've been wandering for a hundred years, looking for something that will make me feel alive again."

CRACK! Lightning flashed across the sky, brilliant purple and blue. Zed's eyes widened. The lightning bolt struck the old oak tree, and from where it hit, something glowed.

"Look!" Lily cried.

Together, they ran to the tree. There, nestled in a burned hollow, were glowing orange pills—each one sparkling with tiny lightning bolts inside.

"What are those?" Zed asked.

Lily picked one up carefully. It hummed in her palm. "I think they're lightning vitamins!"

"Vitamins?" Zed tilted his head.

"My mom gives me vitamins every morning to stay healthy," Lily explained. "These must be special ones—filled with storm magic!"

Zed's eyes brightened. "Do you think..."

Lily nodded. "Try one!"

Zed swallowed a lightning vitamin. Immediately, his green skin turned rosy pink. His button eye became a real eye that twinkled like stars. His stitched smile turned into a genuine grin.

"I feel... warm!" Zed laughed, spinning around. "I feel alive!"

Lily cheered and took Zed's now-warm hand. "You're not a zombie anymore. You're my friend."

And as the rain slowed to a sprinkle and the moon peeked through the clouds, Lily and Zed danced in the puddles, both glowing with the magic of friendship and the wonder of a stormy night's miracle.
