The Lightning Court
Leo squinted at the old padel court behind Grandma's house. Its cracked pavement sat empty, forgotten. No one had played there in years.
"It's just a dusty court," Mia said, bouncing a ball. "Want to play anyway?"
Leo nodded. But as he stepped onto the court, something magical happened. CRACK! Thunder rumbled. Purple lightning flashed between the rusted fence posts.
"Whoa!" Mia gasped. The court wasn't dusty anymore. It gleamed like polished glass. The net shimmered with silver light.
Then appeared a tiny glowing creature—a lightning bug, but bigger, wearing a miniature padel racket on her back.
"I'm Zappy!" she buzzed. "You found the Lightning Court! It only appears during storms. Want to play the most important game ever?"
"What do we win?" Leo asked.
"Not win," Zappy said. "HELP! My village is sick. We need Storm Vitamins—special berries that grow on Lightning Peak. But we can't reach them without defeating the Cloud Giant in a padel match!"
Leo and Mia exchanged grins. They loved challenges.
The game began. The Cloud Giant served balls made of thunder. SMASH! BOOM! Every hit sent sparks flying. Leo's arms shook. Mia's legs wobbled.
"We can't do this!" Mia panted.
Zappy zipped close. "The vitamins aren't just berries. They're what's inside you—courage, friendship, never giving up! That's the REAL magic!"
Leo looked at Mia. "We've got something the Giant doesn't."
"Each other," Mia finished.
They moved as one unit. Leo darted left while Mia surged right. They anticipated each other's moves like they could read minds. The Cloud Giant lumbered, slow and lonely, with no teammates to help.
When Leo smashed the final winning point, the lightning bug cheered so bright she looked like a mini star.
"You won!" Zappy danced through the air. "You saved my village!"
But the Cloud Giant sat down, head in his enormous cloudy hands. "I just wanted someone to play with," he rumbled sadly.
Leo looked at Mia. Then at the Giant.
"Hey," Leo called. "Want to be on our team next time?"
The Cloud Giant's face brightened. Literally—sunbeams poked through his cloudy head.
"Really?"
"Really," Mia said. "Padel's better with friends."
And so every storm, they played together on the magical Lightning Court. Leo and Mia learned that the best vitamin isn't something you swallow. It's friendship—stronger than lightning, more magical than any storm.
Now whenever they see lightning flash, they smile. Their friends are waiting.
