The Lightning Cat's Orange Gift
Lily loved her orange tabby cat, Marmalade. Every afternoon, they sat together under the old orange tree in the backyard. Marmalade would chase falling leaves while Lily did her homework.
One summer evening, strange purple clouds gathered overhead. Thunder rumbled like a hungry tummy. Then came the lightning—not ordinary lightning, but sparkly pink lightning that crackled and popped like candy!
Marmalade's fur stood straight up. Whiskers twitching, she darted toward the biggest orange on the tree just as a pink bolt zipped down. ZAP! The orange glowed like a tiny sun.
When Lily reached Marmalade, the orange had transformed. It was now a shimmering golden ball that floated above the ground.
"Touch it," whispered a voice. But the house was empty. It was the orange speaking!
Lily reached out. Warmth filled her body. Suddenly she could see tiny glowing creatures everywhere—in the grass, in the flowers, even inside Marmalade's fur!
"We're lightning sprites," the orange explained. "We've been trapped for a hundred years. You freed us!"
The sprites danced around Lily and Marmalade, creating beautiful shapes in the air—a butterfly, a castle, a shooting star.
"Why did you choose us?" Lily asked.
"Because you love each other," the sprites sang. "True friendship is the most powerful magic in the world."
That night, Lily learned something important: magic wasn't about wands or spells. Magic was everywhere—in love, in friendship, in the simple joy of sitting under a tree with someone who cares about you.
Marmalade became known as the Lightning Cat, though she was still the same gentle kitty who loved belly rubs. And every evening, if you looked carefully, you could see tiny pink sparkles dancing around her orange fur—a reminder that the best magic comes from the heart.
