The Lightning Cat's Midnight Run
Lily sat by her bedroom window, watching raindrops race down the glass. Thunder rumbled in the distance, and she counted the seconds until lightning flashed. One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi—CRACK! The sky lit up with bright, jagged lines of pure white light. She loved stormy nights, even though they could be scary.
Suddenly, something caught her eye in the garden below. A small, wet cat was huddled under the rosebushes, its fur fluffed up against the rain. Lily's heart went out to the tiny creature. She grabbed her yellow raincoat and boots, tiptoeing downstairs while her parents slept.
The moment she stepped outside, the strangest thing happened. Lightning struck not in the sky, but around that little cat! Instead of running away like any normal animal, the cat's fur began to glow with a soft, electric blue light. Its eyes sparkled like tiny stars, and when it looked at Lily, she felt warm all over, as if she'd swallowed sunshine.
"I'm Spark," the cat seemed to say without speaking aloud. Lily heard the words in her heart, clear as a bell. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to come out on a night like this."
Without thinking, Lily started running toward the cat, her boots splashing through puddles that reflected the lightning above. But she wasn't just running—she was flying! Each step made her lighter and faster, until she was racing alongside Spark through the garden.
"Hold onto my tail," Spark communicated silently. Lily grabbed the glowing tail, and suddenly they were soaring through the rainy sky, leaving gravity behind. They zipped past sleeping houses, over treetops, and through clouds that tasted like cotton candy. The storm wasn't scary anymore; it was magical!
They landed back in Lily's garden just as the storm passed. Spark's glow faded to a gentle warmth.
"Will I ever see you again?" Lily asked, hugging the now-ordinary-looking cat.
"Every time it storms," Spark purred, "and whenever you're feeling lonely. Just remember—courage isn't about not being scared. It's about doing brave things even when you ARE scared."
Lily carried Spark inside, dried her off, and made a cozy bed beside her own. The storm had brought her the best friend she could imagine, and she learned that the most wonderful discoveries often come from the most surprising moments.
