The Lightning Cat's Midnight Pool
Lily had always wanted a special friend. One rainy night, she spotted a silver cat sitting on her windowsill, its fur crackling with tiny sparks like miniature lightning bolts.
"Hello there," Lily whispered, opening the window just a crack.
The cat leaped inside, and to Lily's amazement, it began running across her bedroom floor on trails of golden lightning! Its paws never touched the carpet—instead, each step created a glowing path that shimmered like captured stormlight.
"I'm Spark," the cat said, his voice sounding like distant thunder. "And you have the most magical pool in all the world."
Lily's eyes widened. Her backyard pool was ordinary—or so she'd thought.
"Come with me," Spark said, already running toward the back door on lightning paths.
Lily followed in her rainboots. Outside, the storm raged. But when Spark reached the pool, something magical happened. The water began to glow, and lightning from the sky poured into it, turning the pool into a swirling portal of stars.
"Jump in!" Spark called, already diving into the water.
Lily hesitated, then leaped.
Instead of splashing, she landed in a world made entirely of clouds and light. Friendly lightning sprites danced around her, and Spark was running across bridges made of thunder.
"This is where storm creatures play," Spark explained. "We needed someone kind to visit us."
Lily spent the night sliding down lightning slides and racing cloud rabbits. When dawn approached, Spark led her back to the pool.
"Will you come back?" the cat asked.
"Every storm," Lily promised.
As Spark disappeared into the clouds, Lily realized something wonderful: sometimes the most extraordinary friends appear when you least expect them, and ordinary places—like a backyard pool—can hide the most magical secrets of all.
Now, whenever lightning flashes across the sky, Lily watches for her friend, knowing that adventure is just a thunderstorm away.
