The Lightning Cat's Midnight Gift

Lily tucked her messy brown hair behind her ears and sat by her bedroom window. Rain pattered against the glass, and she watched her orange cat, Mango, stretch on the windowsill.

Suddenly, lightning flashed! Not the ordinary kind—this lightning was purple and swirly, like raspberry ripple ice cream. It zapped right through the window and touched Mango's nose.

*ZING!* Mango's fur sparkled with tiny stars. The cat looked at Lily with emerald eyes and somehow, she understood him.

"Lily!" Mango meowed, but it came out as real words. "The purple lightning was a gift from the Storm Kingdom! We have an important mission!"

Lily's eyes grew wide as dinner plates. "You can talk?!"

Mango nodded. "Only until midnight. We must help Bernard—the lonely cloud bear who creates thunder but has no friends to hear his songs."

Lily grabbed her iPhone and snapped a photo of Sparkle-Mango. "Mom will never believe this!"

"Hold my paw," Mango said, extending a glittering paw. "We're going cloud-climbing!"

*WHOOSH!* They floated up, up, up through the ceiling, into the stormy sky. There, sitting on a fluffy thundercloud, was Bernard—a bear made entirely of gray clouds with raindrop eyes.

"Hello?" Bernard rumbled sadly. "Is anyone there to hear my thunder?"

*Lily stepped forward boldly.* "We're here, Bernard! And your thunder is beautiful!"

Bernard's face lit up like sunshine breaking through rain. "You really think so?"

Mango's starry fur glowed brighter. "Play us a song, Bernard!"

Bernard smiled and stomped his cloud paws—*BOOM-BOOM-RUMBLE!* It wasn't scary at all. It sounded like drums, like laughter, like magic.

Lily recorded it on her iPhone, swaying to the rhythm. Mango purred along, his sparkles creating rainbow swirls around them.

"You're not alone anymore," Lily told Bernard, hugging his cloudy belly. "We'll visit every stormy night!"

As the clock struck twelve, Mango's sparkle faded. But as they floated back to Lily's bedroom, something magical remained—Bernard's friendship, a starry necklace around Lily's neck, and the knowledge that even the loneliest creatures just need someone to listen.

That night, Lily fell asleep to the gentle sound of thunder, smiling at her orange cat. Some adventures happen when you least expect them—especially when lightning strikes and cats start talking.
