The Lightning Cat's Magic Gift
Lily sat by her bedroom window, watching the storm outside. Rain drummed against the glass, and lightning flashed across the sky like nature's own fireworks. She sighed, resting her chin on her hands.
Being the new kid in town was lonely. No friends yet, no one to talk to, just endless days of wondering if she'd ever belong.
Suddenly, a flash of lightning struck so close that the whole room lit up. When Lily looked again, a small orange cat sat on her windowsill, shaking rain from its fur. Its eyes glowed like tiny lightning bolts - bright yellow and crackling with energy.
"How did you get up here?" Lily whispered, opening the window slowly.
The cat trotted inside, shaking itself dry. Then it did something completely impossible - it reached into the wet fur on its chest and pulled out a small glass bottle filled with sparkling, star-shaped pills that shimmered like captured moonbeams.
"For you," said a tiny voice, but the cat's mouth hadn't moved at all.
Lily gasped. "Did you just... talk?"
The cat nodded. "I'm Lightning, and these are Wonder Vitamins. They help lonely children find magic in the world - and new friends."
"Vitamins?" Lily asked, tilting her head. "Like the ones my mom gives me when I'm sick?"
Lightning purred, a sound like gentle thunder. "Better. Each one helps you see something special. Take one, and look around."
Lily took one of the sparkling stars. It tasted like sunshine and strawberries and something else - something like possibility. Suddenly, the room looked different. Colors seemed brighter. And she noticed something she'd never seen before: her neighbor's window across the street. Another girl was there, watching the storm too, holding a book with wide, wondering eyes.
"That's Maya," Lightning said. "She loves storm stories just like you."
Lily opened her window again and waved. Maya's face lit up like the lightning outside. She waved back, holding up her book.
"Go," Lightning nudged her gently. "The Wonder Vitamin shows you what was always there - you just needed to see it."
Lily's mom drove her across the street when the rain slowed to a sprinkle. Maya opened the door, grinning. "I saw you waving! I've wanted to say hi for weeks!"
They sat on Maya's porch talking about storms and books and lightning until the sun came out, painting rainbows across the sky. When Lily got home, Lightning was gone, but the vitamin bottle sat on her windowsill with a tiny note: "For whenever you need wonder."
She didn't need another vitamin, though. She'd found the best magic of all - a friend who loved storms as much as she did.
