The Lightning Cable's Secret

Leo loved summer days, especially when he could splash in his backyard pool. The cool water felt like magic against his skin. But one afternoon, he noticed something strange near the garden fence—an old, forgotten cable peeking out from under the bushes.

"What are you doing there?" Leo whispered, pulling at the mysterious cable. It sparkled with tiny lights, like captured stars.

That evening, a storm rolled in. Thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy. Leo watched from his window as lightning danced across the sky, painting it bright purple and gold. Suddenly, he saw it—the old cable was glowing! Each lightning flash made it shimmer stronger.

Curious, Leo stepped outside (with his mother's permission, of course). The cable seemed to pull him toward the pool. When he reached the water's edge, the cable dipped into the pool, sending ripples of blue light across the surface.

From the water emerged a tiny creature—no bigger than Leo's hand—with sparkling wings and hair made of seafoam.

"Thank you for finding my lightning cable!" the fairy sang. "I'm Marina, guardian of the pool. My cable connects our world to yours, and only during lightning storms can I visit!"

Leo's eyes grew wide. "You're real!"

Marina smiled. "Real friends are always real, whether made of water or wishes." She showed Leo how the cable carried magical messages between worlds, connecting hearts across distances. "The lightning gives it power," she explained, "but friendship gives it purpose."

They spent the storm telling stories and laughing. As the last thunder faded, Marina handed Leo a small, smooth stone from the pool bottom. "Keep this. Whenever you touch water, think of me, and we'll be friends across all worlds."

Leo watched Marina dive back into the pool, her tail splashing tiny rainbows. The cable stopped glowing, tucking itself back under the bushes.

Every summer after that, Leo would sit by the pool during storms, waiting for his friend. And even when Marina couldn't visit, he'd touch his stone and remember—the best connections aren't always visible. Sometimes, they're like magic cables between hearts, glowing strongest when life's storms light up the sky.
