The Lightning Bull's Hat
Emma loved storms. She loved the rumble of thunder and the flash of lightning across the sky. But most of all, she loved imagining what secrets storms might hold.
One rainy afternoon, Emma found something strange sticking out of the mud in her backyard. It was an old hat—worn and weathered, with a strange shimmering thread woven through the brim. When she picked it up, the hat felt warm, as if it had been sitting in sunshine instead of rain.
"That's peculiar," Emma whispered.
Suddenly, lightning cracked across the sky—not just any lightning, but purple lightning that twisted like ribbon. Emma gasped as she saw something impossible: a massive bull made entirely of glowing lightning standing at the edge of the woods. Its horns were pure white light, and its eyes sparkled like captured stars.
The Lightning Bull walked toward her, its hooves making no sound on the wet grass. Emma stood frozen, clutching the magical hat.
"You found my hat," the Bull spoke, its voice sounding like distant thunder. "I've searched through a hundred storms."
"Is this your hat?" Emma asked, stepping closer despite her racing heart.
"It belongs to whoever is brave enough to face the storm," the Bull said kindly. "Many people hide from lightning, but you stood at your window watching, full of wonder instead of fear."
Emma's eyes widened. "You saw me?"
"I see all storm-lovers," the Bull nodded. "The hat chooses those with courage in their hearts."
Gently, Emma placed the hat on the Bull's luminous head. It fit perfectly.
"Thank you," the Lightning Bull said. "For your kindness, I offer you a gift." With a sweep of its glowing horns, the Bull sent a small spark of purple lightning dancing around Emma like a ribbon. "Whenever you feel afraid, remember this: courage isn't the absence of fear. It's facing the storm anyway."
The Bull reared up and dissolved into a brilliant flash of purple lightning, disappearing into the clouds.
Emma stood alone in her yard, the rain falling softly around her. But she didn't mind the storm anymore—not when she knew that somewhere up there, a magical Lightning Bull was watching over brave children everywhere.
And sometimes, when purple lightning streaked across the sky, Emma would wave, knowing her friend was saying hello.
