The Lightning Bull's Golden Promise
Barnaby was no ordinary bull. He lived on Miller's Farm, but while other bulls chased each other and snorted, Barnaby liked to sit by the old swimming pool and watch the clouds drift by.
One stormy evening, as rain pattered down, a bolt of lightning struck the oak tree beside the pool. Zap! When the smoke cleared, Barnaby's black fur had turned shimmering gold, and his horns glowed like captured starlight.
But the real magic happened when Barnaby peered into the pool. A tiny goldfish with sparkling silver scales swam up to the surface.
"You've been struck by storm magic!" the goldfish said in a voice like tiny bells. "I've been swimming in this pool for three hundred years, waiting for someone with lightning hair. You can help me!"
Barnaby tilted his head. "My hair glows now? And how can a bull help a fish?"
"Your lightning fur can break the curse that trapped me here!" The goldfish did a joyful flip. "I was once the guardian of swimming pools everywhere. But a grumpy wizard turned me into a fish. Only lightning magic can save me!"
Barnaby's heart swelled. He had always wished for adventure. "What must I do?"
"Touch your glowing nose to the water at midnight, when the moon reflects in the pool!" The goldfish swam excited circles. "But you must promise to use your magic to help others after I'm free."
"I promise," Barnaby said solemnly.
That night, under the full moon, Barnaby touched his lightning nose to the water. CRACKLE! The pool lit up with golden light. The goldfish grew and grew until a beautiful being emerged, dressed in flowing robes that looked like water itself.
"Thank you, Barnaby!" The Pool Guardian smiled. "Your kindness has broken the spell. Now, touch your horn to any water, and you'll make it pure and magical forever."
And so Barnaby became the Lightning Bull, traveling from farm to farm, turning dirty ponds into crystal swimming holes where children could play safely. His golden fur shimmered like the lightning that had changed him, and somewhere in every clean pool he blessed, a tiny goldfish would appear, winking like a secret friend.
Sometimes the quietest ones have the greatest adventures waiting — and a bull who sat and dreamed by the pool became the guardian of all pools everywhere.
