The Lightning Bull's Gift

Ten-year-old Leo tugged his favorite red hat down over his messy brown hair as dark clouds gathered overhead. His grandma had given him the hat before she moved away, and wearing it made him feel brave.

A crack of thunder shook the ground. Leo held up his mom's old iPhone, using the flashlight to see through the sudden downpour. He was supposed to be home by now, but something strange had caught his eye.

In the meadow behind their farm stood a magnificent bull with fur that shimmered like polished copper. But this wasn't ordinary livestock. With every flash of lightning, the bull's horns glowed brilliant blue, and tiny sparks danced around its hooves.

"You shouldn't be out here, little one," the bull spoke, its voice deep and warm like summer earth. "Storms can be dangerous."

Leo's eyes went wide. "You can talk!"

The bull bowed its massive head. "I am Orion, guardian of storm electricity. I've watched this valley for three hundred years." His horns crackled softly. "Your grandmother knew me. She was kind to all creatures, great and small."

Leo's heart swelled. Grandma had always said magic existed for those who believed.

"Please," Leo said, "can you teach me something?"

Orion smiled—a twinkle of lightning in his dark eyes. "Close your eyes. Hold out your hand."

Leo obeyed. A gentle tingle warmed his palm. When he opened his eyes, a tiny lightning bolt hovered there, no bigger than a firefly, harmless and beautiful.

"Magic lives in kindness," Orion said. "Your grandmother understood this well. Now you carry her light."

The bull bowed once more, then dissolved into mist as the storm broke. Sunlight pierced through the clouds, painting rainbows across the meadow.

Leo raced home, his hat somehow warmer on his head, his heart fuller than before. That night, he drew a picture of a glowing bull, and above it, he wrote: *Magic finds those who are kind to all living things.*

And from that day on, whenever storms gathered, Leo would smile, touching his red hat and remembering the lightning bull's gift—the knowledge that love, like lightning, connects us all, glowing brightest in the darkest moments.
