The Lightning Bug Secret

Lily loved the pool behind her house. Every afternoon, she would go swimming, splashing and laughing until her fingers wrinkled like raisins. But she always wondered what happened to the pool at night, when the moon rose and the stars twinkled above.

One warm summer evening, Lily couldn't sleep. She crept downstairs and peeked through the window. What she saw made her gasp!

Hundreds of tiny lightning bugs were hovering over the pool, their lights flickering like little stars. But these weren't ordinary bugs. Lily watched carefully, acting like a spy as she tiptoed closer to the glass.

The lightning bugs were dancing! They swirled and spun, their glow growing brighter and brighter until suddenly — ZAP! A tiny bolt of lightning sparked from bug to bug, and the pool began to shimmer.

The water turned from dark blue to sparkling silver, and Lily saw something amazing. Fish made of pure light were swimming beneath the surface! They darted and played, leaving trails of glow wherever they went.

Lily's heart pounded with wonder. She had discovered a secret world!

Suddenly, one lightning bug landed on the window, blinking slowly.

"You've found our secret," the bug seemed to say without speaking. "Every night, we make the pool magical. But only kind hearts can see it."

Lily pressed her hand against the glass. "I promise never to tell."

The bug twinkled, then flew back to join the dance. Lily watched until her eyelids grew heavy. That night, she dreamed of swimming among silver fish with lightning bug companions.

From then on, Lily never swam in the pool the same way. Sometimes, just for a moment, she would see a tiny sparkle beneath the water, reminding her that magic exists everywhere — you just have to look with your heart.

And every evening at dusk, she would wave to the lightning bugs, her secret friends who turned ordinary swimming into extraordinary adventure.
