The Lightning Bug's Secret

Mia loved storms. While other kids hid under blankets when thunder rattled their windows, she pressed her nose against the glass, watching the sky light up like fireworks. One rainy afternoon, she noticed something strange—a tiny glow near the porch railing. It wasn't a reflection or a flashlight. It was pulsing, gentle and warm.

She slipped outside through the back door, rain speckling her pajamas. The glow grew brighter as she approached. There, clinging to a wet leaf, was the biggest lightning bug she'd ever seen—its light was amber-gold, almost like a tiny star.

"You're lost, aren't you?" Mia whispered. She cupped her hands carefully. The lightning bug crawled onto her palm, its legs tickling like whispers. And then—something magical happened. The bug's light wrapped around her fingers like warm honey, and suddenly, Mia wasn't standing on her porch anymore.

She was floating above the backyard, seeing everything through hundreds of tiny eyes at once. She could feel the rain as a song, each drop a note. The wind was laughter. And below, she saw children hiding inside, afraid of the beauty outside.

The lightning bug showed her something wonderful—every flash of lightning carried dreams to the earth, where they grew into flowers and ideas. Fear was just excitement holding its breath.

"Thank you," Mia said, back on her porch. The lightning bug flashed once—*friend*—and flew away toward the clouds. Mia smiled, her palm still tingling with magic, and ran inside to tell everyone what storms really meant.
