The Lightning Bolt Who Was Afraid of Storms
Lily had the most extraordinary hair anyone in Sunnyville had ever seen. Thick, bouncy curls that stuck out in every direction—just like lightning bolts!
One afternoon, as gray clouds gathered overhead, Lily sat by her bedroom window watching the first raindrops fall. Thunder rumbled in the distance like a sleepy giant waking up from a nap.
Suddenly, something tiny and glowing zipped into her room through a crack in the window. It was a little lightning bolt, no bigger than a firefly, shivering and scared.
"Please help me!" squeaked the little spark, which introduced himself as Flash. "The big storm is coming, and I'm supposed to go up into the clouds to make lightning. But I'm afraid of heights!"
Lily gasped. A lightning bolt afraid of storms? That was like a fish afraid of water!
"Don't worry," she said gently. "Everyone gets scared sometimes. Even me."
"Really?" Flash flickered brighter with hope.
"Really," Lily nodded. "When I was little, I was afraid of the dark. But then my mom gave me this special nightlight, and I learned that darkness isn't so scary after all."
Her curls bounced as she smiled. "Maybe you just need a friend to go with you."
"Would you... would you really come with me?" Flash asked.
Lily's eyes sparkled. "Absolutely!"
Holding Flash gently in her hands, Lily wished she could fly—and suddenly, her hair began to glow! The magical curls lifted her up, and together they soared through the window, right into the storm clouds.
High above, Flash took a deep breath and joined his fellow lightning bolts. For the first time, he created a brilliant flash of light—without being afraid!
"Thank you, Lily," Flash called as he danced across the sky with his new friends. "You taught me that being brave doesn't mean not being scared. It means doing scary things even when you ARE scared—especially when you have a friend by your side."
Lily waved from below, her glowing hair shining like her own little bolt of lightning. She had found something wonderful that day: sometimes the best way to conquer your fears is to help someone else conquer theirs.
