The Lightning Bear's Wild Garden
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's cottage in the woods. Every summer, she'd explore the forest paths, collecting pretty stones and watching birds. But this summer would be different.
One evening, as dark clouds gathered overhead, Lily noticed something strange. Behind Grandma's garden, where the wild spinach grew tall and green, tiny bolts of lightning danced across the leaves. Curious, she stepped closer.
CRACK! Thunder shook the ground. From behind a massive oak tree, a bear emerged. But not an ordinary bear — this bear's fur shimmered like the night sky, and strands of lightning streaked through his hair like glowing ribbons. He didn't look scary at all. He looked lonely.
"Hello," Lily whispered.
The bear blinked his golden eyes. "Hello, little one. I'm Sparky."
"I'm Lily. Why is lightning in your hair?"
Sparky sighed. "It's my gift. When I was a cub, I saved a lightning sprite from a trap. As thanks, the sprite blessed me with lightning powers. But the other bears were afraid. They said I was too different."
Lily's heart went out to him. "Grandma always says being different makes you special. Like how her spinach grows sweeter than anyone else's because she sings to it."
Sparky's ears perked up. "Your grandmother's spinach? I've been eating it! It's the only food that doesn't burn when I touch it. The lightning in my body makes everything else sizzle."
Lily giggled. "That explains the glowing plants!" She had an idea. "Sparky, would you like to help me in Grandma's garden? Your lightning could help plants grow faster, and you can eat all the spinach you want."
Sparky's eyes shone brighter than ever. "Really? You'd want to be friends with a lightning bear?"
"Absolutely!" Lily grinned. "Being different is wonderful."
That summer, Lily and Sparky became the best of friends. The lightning bear's gentle sparks made Grandma's garden flourish like never before, and the spinach grew tall and delicious. The other forest animals soon saw how helpful and kind Sparky was, and they welcomed him too.
Lily learned that true friends don't care about what makes you different — they celebrate it. And Sparky learned that his unusual gift wasn't a curse at all, but something magical that made him exactly who he was meant to be.
Now every summer, Lily returns to find her lightning bear friend waiting, his wild hair streaked with glowing ribbons of lightning, ready for another season of friendship, magic, and the best spinach in the whole wide world.
