The Lightning Bear's Secret Friend

Maya loved climbing the old palm tree in her backyard. It was the tallest tree on the block, with rough bark that felt like dragon scales under her fingers. Every afternoon after school, she'd scramble up to her favorite branch and eat an orange snack while watching the clouds drift by.

One stormy afternoon, Maya spotted something peculiar. A tiny bear no bigger than her teddy bear was sitting on a nearby branch, holding what looked like a miniature telescope. Maya held her breath. Was the bear a spy? The little creature was wearing a tiny green jacket and had the kindest eyes she'd ever seen.

"I'm Barnaby," the bear squeaked, noticing Maya. "And yes, I am a spy. But don't worry—I'm a GOOD spy. I protect the garden's magic!"

Maya's eyes widened. "Magic?"

Barnaby nodded solemnly. "This palm tree isn't just any tree. During storms, it catches lightning in its leaves and stores it as magic sparkles. Those sparkles make everything in the garden grow extra beautifully. But last night, I saw something suspicious. The sparkles are disappearing!"

Maya gasped. "We should investigate!"

Together, they became a detective team. Maya climbed down carefully while Barnaby rode on her shoulder. Behind the garden shed, they found a squirrel—Barnaby's naughty cousin—who had been collecting the magic sparkles to build himself a glittery nest.

"Sparkles are for everyone!" Barnaby scolded gently. "Not just for one squirrel's nest."

The squirrel looked ashamed. "I just wanted something pretty..."

Maya had an idea. "What if we work together? We can use a few sparkles to make your nest beautiful, AND share the rest with the whole garden. That way, everyone gets a little bit of magic."

The squirrel's face lit up. "Really?"

"Really!" said Barnaby. "Friendship means sharing."

From that day on, Maya, Barnaby, and the squirrel worked together to protect the garden's magic. And every time lightning flashed during a storm, Maya would smile, knowing her secret bear friend was up in the palm tree, catching sparkles to make the world more beautiful for everyone.
