The Lightning Bear's Secret Adventure
Lily pressed her nose against the rain-streaked window, counting the seconds between lightning flashes. One... two... three—BOOM! Thunder rattled the glass. Her stuffed bear Barnaby sat on the windowsill, his button eyes catching each flash.
"One day," she whispered, "we'll have a real adventure."
Suddenly, a blinding bolt of lightning struck the old telephone cable outside her window. The cable began to shimmer with golden light, stretching upward into the storm clouds like a magical rope. To Lily's amazement, Barnaby twitched—then stood up on his fuzzy hind legs!
"Are you ready?" the bear asked, his voice like honey and rainbows. "The lightning has opened the path!"
Together they climbed the glowing cable. Higher and higher they went, past the clouds, until they reached a floating island made of stardust. There, grazing on clouds that tasted like cotton candy, was an enormous bull with mist swirling around his golden horns.
"I'm Orion," the bull rumbled gently. "Will you be my friend? I've been lonely for a hundred years."
Lily's heart swelled with kindness. "Of course! Barnaby and I are your friends now."
Orion revealed his secret: he was the Guardian of Storms, and lightning bolts were his way of painting pictures to cheer up children afraid of thunder. But his hooves were too clumsy to make the shapes right.
"Will you help me?" Orion asked sadly.
"We will!" Lily promised.
Every stormy night after that, Lily and Barnaby climbed the magical cable to help Orion create beautiful lightning displays—dancing horses, shooting stars, and even messages written in light that said "BE BRAVE."
Children all over the world stopped being afraid of storms, knowing that somewhere in the clouds, a girl, her bear, and a lonely bull were sending them magical messages of courage.
Lily learned that the best adventures are the ones that turn strangers into friends, and even the scariest things—like lightning storms—can hide something wonderful.
