The Lightning Bear's Secret

Lily discovered the golden pyramid hidden beneath a pile of old quilts in her grandmother's attic. It was no bigger than her palm, yet it shimmered with an inner light that made her heart race. Rain drummed against the roof as thunder rumbled in the distance.

"What are you?" she whispered, tracing the pyramid's smooth surface with her finger.

Suddenly, lightning flashed outside the attic window, and the pyramid began to glow. A tiny door appeared on its side, swinging open to reveal the most surprising sight—a bear no larger than a teacup stepped out!

The little bear wore a miniature cloak made of woven lightning bolts that crackled softly. He stretched his paws and yawned.

"Hello, young friend," he said in a voice like gentle thunder. "I am Zap, guardian of the Pyramid of Courage. Only during storms may I leave my home."

Lily's eyes widened. "You're magical!"

"Indeed," Zap nodded. "But my magic only works for those who are truly brave. Tell me, Lily—what frightens you?"

Lily thought about her spelling test tomorrow, the dark basement, and how she never raised her hand in class. "Everything," she admitted.

Zap smiled and touched her nose with a sparkly paw. "True courage isn't having no fear. It's being scared but doing what's right anyway. Each time you face a fear, you build your own pyramid of bravery inside yourself."

More lightning flashed, and Zap began to fade. "Remember—you don't need my magic. You have your own courage pyramid within you!"

"Wait!" Lily called. "Will I see you again?"

Zap's voice echoed as he returned to his pyramid. "Whenever lightning strikes and you need reminding—just be brave!"

The pyramid sealed itself, becoming an ordinary paperweight once more. But Lily didn't feel ordinary anymore. The next day, she raised her hand in class, and though her heart raced like a storm, she spoke clearly. She had built the first block of her courage pyramid, and somehow, she knew Zap would be proud.
