The Lightning Bear's Secret
Leo loved lying on the grass beside his dog, watching summer storms roll across the sky. Barnaby was the best friend a boy could have — loyal, warm, and always ready for adventure, especially when thunder rumbled like a giant's belly laugh.
One evening, as lightning painted the sky in brilliant purple streaks, Leo spotted something glowing behind the old oak tree. Barnaby's ears perked up, and together they crept closer.
There, curled in a hollow, sat a tiny bear no bigger than a pinecone. But this bear wasn't brown and fuzzy — he shimmered like a living star, his fur crackling with tiny sparks that danced like fireflies.
"I'm a lightning bear," the creature squeaked, his voice sounding like bells wrapped in blankets. "I fell from the sky during the storm, and now I'm stuck here without my storm vitamins."
"Storm vitamins?" Leo asked, his eyes wide.
"Yes! They're special berries that grow only when lightning strikes the magical elderbush. Without them, I'll fade away and never return home to the Cloud Kingdom."
Leo looked at the tiny, flickering bear. His glow was already dimming.
"Barnaby, we have to help him!"
As if on cue, a tremendous bolt of lightning struck the elderbush on the hillside. For a moment, the bush blazed with silver light. When Leo's vision cleared, glowing blue berries hung from its branches.
Hand in paw with Barnaby, Leo raced up the hill, gathered the precious fruit, and brought them back to the little bear. The bear ate each berry with great delight, and with every bite, he grew brighter and stronger.
"Thank you," the bear rumbled, now as tall as Leo himself. "You've shown me that true friendship is the strongest magic of all."
With a joyful roar, the lightning bear leaped into the sky, trailing sparkles like a comet. That night, and every night after, the northern lights danced a little brighter — the bear's way of saying thank you to the boy and his dog who had become his friends.
