The Lightning Bear's Gift
Lily had the messiest hair in town. It stuck out in every direction, especially after swimming at the creek. Mama called it her lion's mane. Lily called it her adventure crown.
One stormy afternoon, Lily swam deeper than usual in the creek. Suddenly, lightning flashed across the sky. In that bright moment, she saw something amazing.
A bear sat on the opposite bank, but not like any bear she'd seen in books. Its fur shimmered with orange streaks that glowed like captured lightning. The bear wasn't scary at all—it looked lonely.
Lily swam across. The bear's eyes were kind and full of wonder. It held out a giant paw, offering an orange fruit Lily had never seen before. It smelled like sunshine and magic.
The bear pointed to the storm clouds above, then made a sweeping gesture toward her hair. Suddenly, Lily understood. Her messy hair had attracted the lightning, which had led her to this magical creature who needed a friend.
She took the orange fruit and shared it with the bear. They sat together as the storm passed, two new friends watching rainbows stretch across the sky.
From that day on, Lily never complained about her wild hair again. Sometimes the things that make us different are exactly what lead us to our greatest adventures—and truest friends.
