The Lightning Bear's Baseball Game
Ten-year-old Maya sat alone in her backyard, staring at the darkening sky. She gripped her favorite baseball tightly in her right palm. The other kids had gone home when the first rumbles of thunder echoed in the distance.
"Anyone want to play catch?" she whispered to the empty yard.
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning crackled across the purple clouds—and something magical happened. Where the lightning struck the ground, a glowing figure appeared. It was a bear! But not just any bear—this bear shone with the same brilliant light as the lightning that had brought him here.
"I heard you needed a teammate," the bear rumbled gently. His voice sounded like distant thunder, but kind.
Maya's eyes widened. "You... you want to play baseball?"
"I've watched you from the clouds," said the bear. "You never give up, even when you're practicing alone. That's special."
They played catch under the stormy sky. The bear's huge paws were surprisingly gentle, and he threw the ball with perfect aim. Maya laughed as she ran across the grass, her palm tingling with warmth every time she caught the magical bear's throws.
"Why did you come down?" Maya asked between throws.
"Because courage like yours deserves to be seen," the bear replied. "And sometimes, the best friends arrive when you least expect them—but exactly when you need them most."
As the storm passed and the first stars appeared, the bear grew fainter. "I must return to the sky now. But remember, Maya—you never truly play alone."
"Will I see you again?" Maya called out.
"Every time lightning strikes," the bear promised, "I'll be there, cheering you on."
Maya watched him fade into a single spark of light that shot up to join the stars. She looked at the baseball in her palm and smiled. Some friends are magical, and some friendships are lightning strikes—rare, brilliant, and unforgettable.
