The Lightning Batter
Max loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd grab his glove and run to the park, dreaming of hitting the perfect home run. But Max had a problem — he was the smallest kid on his team, and he always struck out.
One stormy afternoon, Max sat on his porch, eating a sandwich with extra spinach. His grandma said it would make him strong like Popeye, but he didn't feel any stronger. Suddenly, lightning flashed across the dark sky, and something shiny fell from the clouds and landed right in his backyard!
Max rushed outside and found a glowing iphone with no buttons, just a shimmering screen. When he touched it, words appeared: "Make a wish, little champion." Max wished he could hit a baseball as far as the stars.
The iphone glowed brighter. That night, Max dreamed he was standing at home plate, holding a bat made of pure light. In the stormy sky above, a giant baseball made of lightning crackled and flashed. The thunder-umpire called, "Batter up!"
Max swung his glowing bat with all his might. CRACK! The lightning baseball shot into the clouds, leaving a trail of sparkles. Where it landed, magical spinach plants grew instantly, their leaves shining like emeralds.
When Max woke up, his grandma was making breakfast. "Eat your spinach," she smiled. Max took a big bite and felt something different — courage. He grabbed his baseball glove and ran to the park.
That day, Max hit his first home run ever. The ball sailed over the fence, across the street, and landed in someone's garden. As Max rounded the bases, he winked at the sky. A tiny lightning bolt flashed back, like a secret thumbs-up from his magical friend.
Sometimes strength doesn't come from being the biggest or tallest. Sometimes it comes from believing in yourself — and maybe, just maybe, from eating your spinach.
