The Lightning Baseball Mystery
Emma and Jake were best friends who loved to play spy. Every Saturday, they grabbed their toy binoculars and pretended to be secret agents on important missions.
One rainy afternoon, something magical happened. Emma was practicing baseball in her backyard when suddenly — ZAP! — a bolt of lightning struck her baseball. The ball started glowing with a soft blue light.
"Quick!" Emma whispered to Jake. "We need to investigate this mystery. This is spy business now!"
They followed the glowing baseball as it rolled toward the neighborhood swimming pool. But when they peeked through the fence, they saw something strange. A slow-moving figure was dragging itself through the shallow end of the pool.
"It's a zombie!" Jake gasped.
Emma grabbed her spy notebook. "Don't worry. We've solved lots of mysteries together. We can handle this too."
The friends tiptoed around the pool, watching carefully. The zombie-like figure kept bumping into the ladder and moving in slow, jerky motions. Emma shone her flashlight on it.
It wasn't a zombie at all. It was old Mr. Henderson from next door, wearing his giant gardening gloves and trying to retrieve his favorite baseball cap that had blown into the pool!
"Are you okay?" Emma called out.
"Oh, hello there!" Mr. Henderson said, climbing out of the pool. "My cap blew right off my head in this wind!" He looked at the glowing baseball in Emma's hand. "My goodness, that's extraordinary!"
The lightning had given Emma's baseball magical powers. Every time she hit it, it would light up different colors — red for a home run, green for a good catch, and purple for the most amazing plays.
Emma and Jake learned something important that day. Sometimes things that seem scary or mysterious turn out to be perfectly ordinary. And the best adventures are even better when you face them with your best friend by your side.
From then on, every time Emma hit a magical glowing baseball, she and Jake would smile, remembering the day they solved the Zombie Pool Mystery and discovered that friendship is the greatest magic of all.
