The Lightning Baseball Game
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd practice in his backyard, dreaming of hitting the perfect home run. But nobody could have guessed what would happen the day he found the golden cable in his attic.
It shimmered like sunshine, and when Leo tugged it, the whole room lit up with a crackling sound like lightning! Whoosh! The cable pulled him upward, floating higher and higher until he landed on a cloud.
There, on a diamond of fluffy white clouds, stood the most amazing sight: a giant sphinx wearing a baseball cap!
"Welcome, young player," the sphinx rumbled kindly. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to join our game."
From behind the sphinx stepped the biggest, friendliest bull Leo had ever seen. But this bull wasn't scary—he wore cleats and held a lightning bolt like a baseball bat!
"I'm Thunder," the bull mooed gently. "Want to play?"
Leo's eyes widened. The sphinx explained that every hundred years, they needed a human player to make the Lightning Baseball Game magical again. Without it, storms on Earth would become too wild.
Leo nodded bravely. The sphinx pitched—using actual lightning that sizzled and popped! Leo swung his bat with all his might. CRACK! The lightning bolt sailed through the clouds, leaving a trail of sparkles.
"HOME RUN!" Thunder cheered, dancing on his hind legs.
They played until the sun set, painting the sky orange and pink. The sphinx smiled. "You've restored balance to the storms, Leo. Now Earth's lightning will be gentle again."
Thunder gave Leo a hug. "Come back anytime, friend!"
As Leo held the golden cable, he floated back to his attic, his heart full of wonder. The most important lesson wasn't about winning—it was about being brave enough to try something new.
That night, as gentle lightning flickered across the sky, Leo smiled. Sometimes the best adventures find you when you're just practicing in your backyard.
