The Lightning Baseball

Leo's hair always stuck up in crazy ways, no matter how much his mom tried to comb it down. Every morning, she would say, "Your hair looks like you stuck your finger in an electrical socket!" Leo just laughed and grabbed his favorite baseball glove.

In his room, a little goldfish named Sparkle swam in circles in her blue bowl. Leo loved Sparkle more than anything. Sometimes, late at night, he could see tiny flashes of light in her bowl, like miniature lightning bolts dancing in the water. But whenever he showed his parents, the lights disappeared.

One sunny Saturday, Leo's baseball team was losing badly. It was the bottom of the ninth inning, and Leo stepped up to the plate with two runners on base. The score was 10 to 8. Leo struck out every time he played. His hands were shaking.

Suddenly, storm clouds gathered out of nowhere. CRACK! A bolt of lightning struck the ground near the baseball field. Leo's hair stood straight up, even crazier than usual. He felt a strange tingling sensation from his head all the way to his toes.

The pitcher threw the ball. Leo swung his bat—CRACK! The ball sailed over the fence. HOME RUN!

"I did it!" Leo shouted. But then he noticed something amazing. When he'd hit the ball, tiny sparks of light had flown from his hair. And in his mind, he heard Sparkle's voice: "Believe in yourself, Leo. You've always had the power."

Leo realized then that the magic lightning hadn't given him special powers. It had simply helped him believe in himself. He didn't need magic to be a great baseball player. He just needed courage.

That day, Leo learned that the real magic was inside him all along. And sometimes, the best friends come in the smallest, fishiest packages.

From that day on, Leo's hair still stuck up every which way. And he still struck out sometimes. But he never forgot that lightning moment when he discovered the most important lesson: believing in yourself is the greatest power of all.
