The Lightning Ball Game
Emma sat by the edge of the pool, dipping her toes in the cool water. It was supposed to be baseball day, but the summer sky had turned dark and stormy. Lightning flashed across the clouds like nature's own fireworks.
"Maybe tomorrow," she sighed, pulling out her iPhone to snap a picture of the dramatic sky.
Suddenly, something splashed in the pool. Not a fish. Not a leaf. A small glowing creature with wings like a dragonfly but a body that sparkled like the lightning above.
"You look like you need a baseball game," the creature said with a grin.
Emma's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"I'm Zip, the Lightning Sprite!" The creature did a backflip in the air. "Want to play REAL baseball? The kind where lightning balls fly and the bases are made of water?"
Zip clapped hands, and suddenly the pool transformed. The water became a glowing field where the bases floated like magical islands. When Zip threw the ball, it crackled with actual lightning - but it didn't hurt. It felt like catching a star!
"Your turn!" Zip called.
Emma swung, and the lightning ball sailed through the air, leaving trails of glitter. When it splashed into the water, ripples of color spread across the pool.
They played until the real storm passed. As the sun came out, Zip faded like morning mist.
"Same time next summer?" Emma called.
"Whenever the lightning comes!" Zip's voice echoed in the puddles.
Emma sat by the pool, grinning at her iPhone. She'd taken one blurry photo - a streak of light across the water. Nobody would believe her, but she knew the truth: the best adventures happen when you least expect them, especially during a storm.
