The Lightning Ball Game
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every Saturday, he played with his friends at the old field behind the school. But this Saturday was different—the sky turned purple as storm clouds gathered.
"We should go home," said Maya, clutching her glove tight.
"Just one more pitch!" Leo begged.
That's when they saw him—a small green figure shuffling near the old oak tree. Tommy whispered, "It's a zombie!" and everyone gasped.
The creature looked up with sad, crinkly eyes. "I'm not a zombie," he said softly. "I'm Zim. I'm just very, very old and very, very tired."
Lightning flashed across the sky, making Zim's green skin glow. Leo stepped forward bravely. "Why are you here, Zim?"
"I used to play baseball too," Zim sighed. "A thousand years ago, before I became whatever I am now. I just wanted to watch one more game."
Leo smiled. "Then you'll play with us!"
Zim's eyes widened. "But I'm slow and creaky..."
"Maya can pitch gently," said Leo. "And you can be on my team."
As Zim gripped the bat, something magical happened. Lightning struck the old oak tree, and suddenly Zim moved with incredible speed! *CRACK!* The ball sailed through the storm clouds, creating a rainbow as it flew.
"Wow!" everyone cheered.
Zim laughed, and his green skin began to glow brighter. "The lightning magic! It remembered who I used to be!"
They played until the storm passed, and Zim taught them ancient baseball secrets that no one else knew. When the sun finally came out, Zim bowed gracefully.
"Thank you for believing in me," he said, then transformed into a beautiful lightning butterfly and flew into the sky.
Leo realized something important that day: sometimes the scariest-looking people just need someone to believe in them. And the best magic of all happens when you choose kindness over fear.
Every time lightning storms came after that, Leo and his friends would wave at the sky, hoping Zim was watching their baseball game from somewhere magical.
