The Lightning Ball Game
Maya lived in a house with a mysterious swimming pool in the backyard. It wasn't an ordinary pool — during lightning storms, it sparkled with tiny golden lights that danced beneath the surface like captured stars.
One rainy afternoon, as lightning crackled across the purple sky, Maya peeked through the fence. To her wonder, tiny goldfish with shimmering scales leaped from the water, catching raindrops on their fins like they were precious pearls.
"Want to play?" A small goldfish called from the water's edge. Its scales glowed soft orange, like sunset captured in water.
Maya's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"Only during lightning," the goldfish explained with a wink. "We're magical, silly. Want to play baseball?"
Baseball! Maya's favorite game. But who would pitch?
The goldfish whistled, and suddenly ten more fish appeared. They formed two teams — the Sparkles and the Splashers. Maya held out her palm, and a tiny baseball made of pure light appeared there, buzzing with warmth like a captured sunbeam.
"You pitch first!" the orange goldfish cheered.
Maya tossed the glowing ball. It zoomed through the air, leaving a trail like miniature lightning. A goldfish leaped high and hit it with its tail — the ball soared into the clouds, then rained down as gentle sparkles.
They played until the storm passed, laughing and splashing. The pool became their secret field, and Maya never felt lonely again.
That night, Maya fell asleep with a palm-sized glow in her pocket — a gift from her magical fishy friends. Some magic, she discovered, doesn't disappear with the lightning. It stays forever in the hearts of those who believe.
And every storm after that, Maya would run to the pool, ready for another game with the most extraordinary teammates anyone could ever wish for.
